(More customer reviews)First off, I'm not even close to a hardcore Madden fan. I am an NFL fan, but I play Madden as more of a casual player. I say that because some things that are dealbreakers to hardcore fans aren't much of a factor for me. This is not a deep game. Customization is almost nonexistant, and there's no Franchise mode. There's also no multiplayer, which is more important. In normal 11-on-11 games, there is often too much going on for the small screen when viewed in 3D mode.
5-on-5, however, is just plain fun. This is not a game to play for hours. For me, this is a game to pick up and spend 30 minutes playing a quick game or two. If your standards are much higher than that, you might want to wait for a future iteration of the franchise. In Pro difficulty, the game is super easy, so I found myself turning up the difficulty far quicker than I normally do.
Graphics are great for a handheld console. 3D doesn't add much more than a touch of depth, and there were a couple times when, in the process of quickly hitting a button to throw a pass, I moved the 3DS out of the optimal viewing angle and couldn't see what was going on for a moment. If you tend to move around more than a little when playing, go ahead and turn the 3D off.
The game is a strong 4 stars to me, a casual Madden player. If multiplayer or franchise was more important to me, it would be a weak 3.
